November Newsletter – 2

(November 15 –November 30)

In an era of unprecedented global connectivity, the struggles and resilience of Hindus facing violence and persecution often go unrecognized. This fortnightly report brings these overlooked narratives to light by providing an unbiased and comprehensive selection of news agencies’ reports offering an overview of incidents impacting the Hindu community worldwide, while also celebrating Hindu heritage. Through this initiative, we seek to raise awareness and advocate for the protection of Hindu rights and religious freedom globally.

North America

United States of America

Indian-Americans in Silicon Valley held a solidarity rally at Milpitas City Hall to condemn the violence against Hindus in Canada and Bangladesh. Community leaders urged US leaders to denounce the attacks and protect the rights of Hindus. The Bay Area in California, home to over 200,000 Indian-Americans, saw participants expressing outrage over recent incidents.

Canada

A Hindu temple in Oakville, Ontario, canceled a consular camp hosted by India’s Consulate in Toronto after local police flagged "security concerns" linked to potential protests by the secessionist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). The decision, made to ensure safety, followed warnings from law enforcement about risks to participants, including consulate staff and community members.

Hindu students in Canada organized a gathering at OCAD University Toronto to discuss rising Hinduphobia amid strained ties between Delhi and Ottawa. The event, hosted by the Hindu Student Council (HSC) Canada, also addressed concerns over Khalistani extremism and the challenges Hindu students face on campuses.

South-East Asia

Bangladesh

Radical Islamist groups in Bangladesh have demanded a ban on ISKCON, accusing its members of chanting "Jai Shri Ram" and labeling it an act of terror. Amid rising violence against Hindus, including temple burnings, Hindu leader Krishna Das Prabhu has been detained on sedition charges, further highlighting the threats faced by minorities in the country.

A Bangladeshi court denied bail to Hindu leader Krishna Das Prabhu, who was arrested on sedition charges after leading rallies advocating for the protection of Hindus in the country. Prabhu faces accusations of disrespecting the national flag during a rally in Chattogram, and his detention has sparked protests demanding his release. India has expressed concern over rising violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, urging authorities to ensure their safety and freedom of expression.

India

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) board has implemented key changes, including the removal of non-Hindu staff and a ban on political speeches, while also addressing prasadam quality and land disputes. These decisions have sparked political debate, with varying reactions from local parties.

The recent court-mandated survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal has reignited a centuries-old dispute, with claims that the mosque was constructed over the ruins of the Shri Hari Har Temple, dedicated to Kalki, Lord Vishnu's prophesied incarnation. Historical evidence, including an 1879 ASI report and accounts by historians, supports the idea that Babur ordered the destruction of the temple, using its materials to build the mosque.
